How’s that donor database of yours?
admin via Zen and the Art of Nonprofit T on Wed, 03 Dec. 2008
In general, although I am sometimes asked, I tend to avoid assisting clients with choosing a donor database package. Mostly because, although I actually know the field pretty well, it’s at the 10,000 foot level, rather than the 50 ft level that clients really need. Breaking a Bad Habit Shatters the Rung Beneath You
guest via Zen Habits on Mon, 01 Dec. 2008
Editor’s Note: This is a guest post from Sean Platt of Writer Dad.
I’ve always thought of life as a spiraling staircase, gracefully wrapping around time and achievement, as opposed to the blunt vertical found on a ladder. Comparing life’s ascension to a set of stairs is often apt, but there are moments when life as ladder is f

Reading Access Databases with PHP and PECL
(unknown author) via Zend Developer Zone on Tue, 25 Nov. 2008
You’ve already seen, in previous articles, just how easy it is to read and write Microsoft Excel spreadsheets with PHP and PEAR. But spreadsheets are just one way of representing structured data – the other, of course, is to use a database. Well, guess what? If your database happens to be Microsoft Access, PHP has you covered there as well!
In this article, I’ll introduce you to

Secret Features
Peter Stern via Zenbe Blog on Tue, 25 Nov. 2008
I have a secret.
Last Wednesday night, when I should have stayed home and gotten rid of a cold, I instead went out to a big gala event to celebrate the secret renaming of the Tri-Borough Bridge to the Robert Kennedy Bridge. Hey, I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, and it was to support a good cause!
It was great to see Alec Ba
